About Artist Ilmar Reinvald

Ilmar’s introduction to painting was in art classes in architecture school.  He started painting on a regular basis after retiring from his architectural practice and moving to Waimea, on the island of Hawaii in 2008.  He is primarily a landscape painter and paints on a regular basis with North Kohala Plein Air Painters.

He enjoys the challenge of painting outdoors and  trying to understand the spirit of a place.  Then the next challenge will be to try to express the essence of that spirit his painting.

Ilmar is a veteran of US Air Force and a Fellow of the American Institute of
